CIM 3,50 x 2,70

3,50 x 2,70 [three and a half two seventy] is a creation of Ana Rita Barata and Bruno Rodrigues / CiM – Dance Company, interpreted by six deaf actors and listeners. This piece is an adaptation of the original piece of Eero Enqvist, Kukunor ja Unikuu (original title in Finnish adapted to English as “Guardians of Dreams”), within the European project Sign+Sound Theatre (Creative Europe Programme – European Commission).

This project’s main objective is to promote the Deaf Theatre at European level and, in particular, the pioneering method of IBT – Innovative Bilingual Theater. This method explores new ways of creating inclusive art for an inclusive audience, allowing artists and spectators, deaf and hearing, to enjoy both the same and simultaneous artistic experience.

Sign and Sound Theater Europe (2017-2019) consists of a group of 9 partners from 6 European countries – Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

3,50 x 2,70 [three and a half two seventy], is a measure, perhaps a coordinate of space, lines, walls or borders, where men and women confront their fears in a play of words, but without words. These multiplied men and women are only two, and between movements and sounds they travel in dreams where what separates them, is nothing more than themselves. This is the battlefield of a war of contradictory feelings, of confrontations with reality lived and dreamed, where they protect a space that, after all, who does it belong to? What keeps them here is exactly the will to communicate, to listen and to kill what separates them. 3,50 x 2,70 [three and a half two seventy] tries to question the space of the other, the borders, from the inside out, from the outside to the inside, in a search of a common language where silence, words and gestures don’t belong to no one.

Intohimo teatteria kohtaan ajaa hänet takaisin lavalle. Pakomatka kivuista ja irtiotto kulman takana väijyvästä katkeruudesta on alkanut. Päähenkilössä herää periksiantamattomuus ja elämänjano.

Esitys sai ensi-iltansa Helsingin juhlaviikoilla 2013.

Four Go Wild in Wellies

Leikkisä seikkailu, jossa tupsupipot, huivit ja teltat heräävät henkiin ja kaikkein kivointa on kumisaappaissa. ”Four Go Wild In Wellies”, neljä villiä kumpparikaverusta, on 3–5-vuotiaille suunnattu ilonpidon täyttämä esitys, jossa lavalle nousee Indepen-dance4, inklusiivisen tanssin ammattilaisryhmä Skotlannista.

Company La Ribot

A Dance company based in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which has 17 years of continuous activity working the concept of inclusive dance through the creation of artistic works that combine in the stage dancers with and without disabilities.

Under the Artistic Direction of Henrique Amoedo, precursor and mentor of this project and creator of the concept of inclusive dance, Dançando com a Diferença has conquered a relevant place in the international artistic area, presenting shows that challenge the diversity and the corporal limits of the extensive cast that makes up this company.

Challenge and audacity are strong characteristics of the work of this company, which tries to transform the social perception that exists around the disabled body and thus, contribute to the change of perception around the artistic activity generated by people with different abilities. Their work help to developing a unique aesthetic and an uncommon artistic and social atmosphere.

Dançando com a Diferença has been for the world of contemporary dance -and continues to be- a gateway into the universe of inclusive dance for the most diverse choreographers, as well as for companies that involve people with different abilities. Among the names that have collaborated with Dançando com a Diferença, stand out artists such as Henrique Rodovalho, Clara Andermatt, Paulo Ribeiro, Rui Horta, Rui Lopes Graça, Tânia Carvalho and, more recently, La Ribot with Happy Island.

If audacity is the mark of work of Dançando com a Diferença, daring is one of the attributes of Henrique Amoedo as Artistic Director, who saw in La Ribot the possibility of expanding and deepening the esthetic and artistic richness of this company.

On a trip to Madrid, in February 2017, he challenged this choreographer to develop a work for people with learning and physical disability.

This challenge attracted from the beginning to La Ribot, as a plastic artist and choreographer, who perceived in the universe of disability endless possibilities that allowed her to explore the language of dance within a bodily and intellectual universe that she had not met before.

For six months, La Ribot knew all the dynamism of a dance company that goes beyond the performative universe; a company imbued with feelings and familiarity, which offers its members a selfless altruism and, at the same time, a safe environment. This combination attracted and impelled La Ribot to explore the microcosm to which these dancers belong and, from this process of discovery and on- site knowledge, on stage sprouted a locus-amoenus capable of bringing the most intimate performance of each interpreter.

But La Ribot’s immersion in the project went far beyond choreographic work. In order to develop authentic, political and transcendental work, the adventure of Happy Island demanded a greater commitment at all levels and thus, La Ribot Cíe. decided to coproduce the show getting involved in the project with all its resources (visibility, circuit, financing, infrastructure).

Happy Island presents a completely new context for both companies, the culmination of a long work that turned out to be a journey of self-knowledge, where limits and prejudices were questioned and overcome, thanks to the artistic creation and a deeply humanistic vision about the condition of disabled persons.

Happy Island offers a new perception towards the understanding of the existence of the «Other».

Ethiopia Visual Art

Ethiopia Visual Art is a sign language theater and dance group. The group is a subdivision of Addis Ababa. It is important for everyone to have a regular, healthy and complete access to everyday activities and hobbies that are not dependent on a strong economy.

Deaf Ethiopian Addis Ababa professional dance group is based on five deaf dancers. The dance group was established in 2009. Achieving success is difficult because they don’t have any connecting company for artists and dancers. Opportunities for them are limited. Their dance concept is based on hip-hop and visualization, which requires amazing dancing skills and a lot of visual signs and body movement in combination with modern hip-hop music.

They worked with Signmark, a deaf singer and band from Finland, in 2009. Two deaf dancers went to Finland in 2010 to have a workshop there and demonstrated their talent.

They also performed at Addis Ababa National Theater in 2016 and other various festivals in Ethiopia. They have made great progress as deaf dancers and created several shows for guests from other countries. Their goal is that nothing is impossible, everyone can get an opportunity.
There is a strong belief that this dance club is very essential to society.

Our vision is to acquire a legal entity and provide nationwide entertainment for the deaf community in Ethiopia, and promote deaf Ethiopian art worldwide.
