Tenor Seungwon Choi
Tenor Seungwon Choi was the first Asian, the first disabled tenor to win the Metropolitan Opera Competition in New York City.
The man, sometimes called ”a singing missionary” has been critically acclaimed as ”a tenor with an elegant, golden voice” who possesses”an exeptional acting skill” by the New York Times. He has also captured the minds of numerous leaders around the world: from former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who called the singer ”the successor to Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras”, and former US President Ronald Reagan, who said Choi sang ”and American anthem he will never forget”, to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who exulted the singer`s ability to ”leave a deep-seated happiness in her heart even after the performance ended”.
Choi has co-performed with many of the major orchestras of the world on the international stage, including the London Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, ann Vienna Philharmonic, starring in countless operas and oratorios. He graduated top of the class from from the Department of Vocal Arts at Hanyang Music University and the graduate school of Manhattan Music College. The numerous musical contests he has won include the Metropolitan Opera Competition of New York, the Opera Competition of Vienna and the Opera Competition of Pasadena.He received Hugo Ross Award as the Vocal Artist of the Year selected by New York City and the Presidental Award in 2001. He has participated over 50 recitals, duo concerts, Big3 Concerts, gala concerts and various religious events and sang at the White House upon the invitation from President Reagan. He has remained active in the international vocal artist community, mainly singing in the United States and South Korea.
