Hijinx: Crossings

‘Crossings’ charts the intimate journey of two worlds colliding at a bus stop, where two dancers find Home in each other. A playful and poetic dance short exploring the global themes of migration and belonging. This duet follows the international success of ‘Elevator’, choreographed by Jessie Brett.

Hijinx
Hijinx is an inclusive theatre company based in Cardiff; all our productions include learning disabled performers alongside performers without learning disability. To support our work we have a network of Academies around Wales that train learning disabled performers in a variety of skills. We provide this training because it is virtually impossible for an actor with learning disability to access more traditional drama schools or universities. When ready, students from our Academies join us on our professional productions. This ensures that our work is always of the highest quality, with all artists starting a process on an equal footing. Crossings features one our performers with a learning disability, Andrew, who was heavily involved in the devising of the production.

Jessie Brett
Jessie is a tutor at Hijinx’s academy and an award winning choreographer based in Wales. She trained at London Contemporary Dance School and at California Institute of the Arts. Her work has been performed at festivals and venues in USA, Spain, Italy, Ethiopia, Germany and Austria. Career highlights include: commission to create new work for the Victoria and Albert museum; winning Dance Bytes with ‘Fire Shadow Silence; collaborations with Carlota Mantecon ‘Awake in the dream’ (winning prize Certaman Choreographico de Madrid 2011) and Carlota Mantecon & Jesus Rubio (best production, best choreography Premios Replica 2013), working with Adugna Dance and Destino Dance Companies in Ethiopia.
